John R. Sullivan was called home to heaven on July 16, 2015 at the age of 80. He was surrounded by his loving family during his brief illness. Born December 27, 1934 in Brockton, MA. he was the son on the late Cyril and Luella (Tyler) Sullivan. John was the devoted husband of Judith (Sadler) Sullivan and the loving father of Kathleen Stathis and her husband Steven of East Bridgewater, Carol Piers and her husband, Vinal of Lewisville, TX., John (Jack) Sullivan and his wife Terri of Berkley, Nancy Sullivan-Benson of Daytona Beach, FL, and Marjorie Baravella and her husband Donald of Carver. John’s grandchildren include Stephanie, Sarah, and Matthew Stathis, Joshua Piers and his wife Sam, Daniel Piers and his wife Amy, Kayla Stewart and her husband Chase, Joy Radigan and her husband Malach, David, Angel,and Amie Jo Piers, the late Timothy Piers, Carrie Ann Sullivan, Priscilla Vandegrift, Jacob Benson, Nicole Benson, Ryan Hampton, Paul, Jeffrey, and Antonia Baravella, two great grandchildren Joseph and Madison Vandegrift. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Sullivan) McCann. Predeceasing him was his brother, C. James Sullivan, Jr. He will also be greatly missed by his nephews, nieces and friends. John was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1954 -1957. He lived in Santa Ana, CA. for many years before returning to Brockton. While there, he received an associates degree from Santa Ana College and was a supervisor in the U.S. Postal Service. In Brockton, he was part of the family business, Insulation Craftsmen. After his retirement from Prudential Insurance, he enjoyed working parttime jobs at Middleborough Gun Shop and Tom’s Bait Shop. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed traveling and staying at his winter home in FL. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. All are invited to visiting hours at Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St (rt. 58) in Carver on Sunday, July 19th from 4:00-8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Monday, July 20th in Carver. A private interment at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Development Fund, 130 Man St., P.O. Box 68, Carver, MA. 02330.
